Tristan Vautier will drive for the Floyd Vanwall Racing Team at Le Mans alongside Tom Dillmann and Esteban Guerrieri.
The Frenchman was confirmed as the Austrian team pulled 1997 F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve out of their line-up, the Canadian’s form less than stellar in a season so far that has seen the effort marked by significant on-track incidents.
The Gibson-powered #4 car finished 8th in class at Sebring after a shunt caused by damage received from contact from a factory Peugeot.
Thereafter there have bee a pair of DNFs – the first in Portimao following a brake fire with Villeneuve at the wheel, understood to be caused by brake cooling being blocked by rubber debris.
The car also crashed out at Spa after a clash between Villeneuve and Francesco Castellacci in the #54 GTE Am Ferrari.
33 year-old Vautier, one-time Star Mazda and Indy Lights Champion is set to make his second appearance at Le Mans after a debut last year with ARC Bratislava.
Villeneuve has though still been named for the 6H Monza in July though DSC understands that the team were already talking to other drivers with a view to potentially replacing Villeneuve after Le Mans even before today’s announcement
