The centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is here, and with the arrival, as I type, of the pair of factory-entered Ferrari 499P Hypercars in the Place de la Republique for scrutineering, two days of scrutineering is near complete.
Firstly some important points. Outside of a very few, next to nobody is talking about, and for the most part care about, Balance of Performance.
Talking to very senior sources at to real contenders for the overall win the outlook was identical.
“We’re here to go racing, if it’s with a little more weight, so be it!”
DSC works 365 days a year to try to unpick the detail in this most complex of areas of the sport for our loyal readers and the not inconsiderable numbers of new followers flocking to the sport.
It’s correct then to explain the changes, we’ll do that in our previews for the race early next week.
What we won’t be doing is partaking in metaphorical wailing and gnashing of teeth about decisions made, or not made, ahead of this event.
If a change makes a difference in what you see on track we’ll explain it and for the most part, we expect to do very little of that.
With the gathering of friends here as always, we’ll inevitably be breaking (a lot of) bread and uncorking (a lot of) wine with many of them, and as to the prevailing feeling about what’s to come we share the thoughts, to the letter, of our factory racing colleagues:
We’re here to go racing. If it’s with a little more weight, so be it!
