If there’s a word to describe Mark Kvamme as the owner and builder of MDK Motorsports, it’s agility. Kvamme has had to juggle around several racing programmes including new efforts in 2023 – along with entering his second 24 Hours of Le Mans and his first in an LMP2 car.
And he’s not keen to settle with what he’s built up so far as he looks to the future. “What I’ve told folks and what I’d like to see is MDK Motorsport to be in every Porsche class,” Kvamme told DSC on Friday.
“We’re in Sprint Challenge. We’re in Carrera Cup, World Challenge GT3 in SRO and in IMSA GTD,” he continues. “The team has done a phenomenal job – and we have 12 drivers this year.”
MDK’s full-season effort in GT World Challenge America is one of the new projects that Kvamme has launched this year. At Daytona, MDK Motorsport also began what was expected to have been a programme that would contest all four rounds of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup.
But that programme has been scaled back to just Daytona and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Kvamme says the IMSA plans “got a little muddled,” but not due to an unfavourable Balance of Performance at the Rolex 24 Hours.
“What happened was, there’s no spare parts for the car. And I had a full-time customer for SRO. Watkins Glen IMSA is really close to VIR SRO – and so I said, guys, we can’t do this.”
“We did Daytona, we’re also going to do Road Atlanta, and we’re hoping to have two cars next year,” Kvamme said about his future plans in IMSA.
“There’s another Porsche that has a six in its name that I’d love to do in a couple of years. Let’s see what we can do to make that happen!”
