IMSA officials have announced today that the 2024 Six Hours of The Glen has been moved forward one weekend, to 20-23 June 2024, in order to eliminate a clash of dates with the 24 Hours of Spa on the following weekend.
The third round of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup will now take place on Sunday, 23 June, and drivers will now be available to take part in the Spa 24H the following weekend.
It will, however, mean a tighter turn-around after the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which takes place the preceding weekend on 15-16 June.
“IMSA has elected to make this adjustment to our 2024 schedule for the benefit of many of our global automotive partners and drivers who not only compete in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, but also in many other prestigious 24-hour races,” said IMSA President John Doonan about the change of dates.
“We were able to accommodate this change through a spirit of collaboration with our partners at NBC Sports and Watkins Glen International, and we are grateful to all involved for their cooperation. IMSA expects to return to its traditional and longstanding date on the last weekend of June in 2025 and beyond.”
One major clash of dates has been resolved, while others still remain. The Weathertech SportsCar Championship’s first visit to the new Detroit Renaissance Centre street circuit still clashes with next year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours (31 May-2 June), the Course de Monterey at Laguna Seca takes place on the same weekend as the WEC 6 Hours of Spa (10-12 May), and IMSA’s visit to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (Mosport) takes place on the same weekend as WEC’s return to Interlagos (12-14 July).
