Porsche Confirms Cameron, Campbell Swap

Refreshed lineups for Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 crews in IMSA, WEC, and Rolex 24

Porsche Penske Motorsports has refreshed the lineups of its factory FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar and IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship GTP teams by swapping Dane Cameron and Matt Campbell across the two series in 2024.

Cameron, the two-time IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship premier class champion, will return to the American series to partner Felipe Nasr for the full season in the #7 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963.

In exchange, Campbell, the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans LMGTE Am class winner and 2022 IMSA GTD Pro champion, will head back to the FIA World Endurance Championship where he’ll share the #5 Penske Porsche with Michael Christensen and Frédéric Makowiecki.

Last year, Cameron recorded three top-five finishes as part of Porsche’s return to the top class of the WEC.

On the other side of the operation, Campbell and co-driver Nasr won the IMSA Sportscar Weekend race at Road America, and took pole positions at Laguna Seca and Indianapolis.

With this change, there is also a change to Porsche Penske Motorsport’s lineups at the upcoming Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. Cameron, Nasr, and Campbell will be joined by reigning Indianapolis 500 champion Josef Newgarden in the #7 car – with Cameron taking Makowiecki’s place in the four-driver lineup.

“We’ve made a logical change in our driver squad,” explains Porsche Motorsport Vice President Thomas Laudenbach. “Our goal continues to be to optimise the overall package for contesting the two major championships. This applies to the vehicle and the team processes as well as the cockpit crews.

“Last season we fought for the title in the IMSA series until the last race. Our expectations for 2024 are high: we want to lead the way in North America, Le Mans and the FIA WEC.”

The other lineups remain intact for 2024. In IMSA, Mathieu Jaminet and Nick Tandy will continue to drive the #6 Penske Porsche, joined at the Rolex 24 by Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor. Estre, Vanthoor, and André Lotterer will drive the #6 Penske Porsche in WEC.
