Proton Competition announced this evening a new partnership with Mustang Sampling for the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.
This partnership will see the familiar black and gold colours of the West Virginia-based energy company – as well as the familiar number 5 which accompanied other Mustang Sampling-sponsored prototypes of the past – adorn Proton’s customer Porsche 963 prototype in the 2024 GTP class.

“Our new partner Mustang Sampling Racing has a long history of success in the IMSA SportsCar Championship and has won several WeatherTech titles, as well as Michelin Endurance Cups and the Rolex 24. We believe this will be a profitable partnership, and Mustang Sampling is an excellent fit for our team.”
Mustang Sampling-coloured prototypes won the 2015 IMSA Prototype Class Championship, three consecutive Michelin Endurance Cups from 2015 to 2017, and the 2018 Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, all in partnership with Action Express Racing.
The company was last involved in IMSA when it sponsored JDC-Miller MotorSports’ Cadillac DPi-V.R from 2020 to 2022.
Proton Competition will announce the drivers of its Porsche 963 at a later date. Gianmaria Bruni and Neel Jani were named in the provisional Daytona 24 Hours entry list which was initially published last month, with a third driver to be announced at a later date taking the place of Ford-bound Harry Tincknell.
Bruni, Jani, and the departed Tincknell drove the Proton Porsche to its maiden IMSA podium at the season-ending Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
