The 2024 Dubai 24 Hours, part of the 24H Series, has been postponed to January 27th and 28th, DSC has learned. The date change is due to a shipping issue which has delayed a significant number of cars from arriving at the circuit on time.
Originally the Dubai 24 Hours was set to run from January 13th-14th. But this news means the race – Creventic’s flagship endurance event – will be run on the same weekend as the Rolex 24 Hours and the weekend before the Asian Le Mans Series meeting at the Dubai Autodrome.
Clearly, this issue will cause headaches for any teams and drivers planning to take part in both the Dubai and Rolex 24 hour races.
The new timetable, seen by DSC, features a first day of track testing on the 21st, before the Motor City Parade on the 24th, Qualifying on Friday the 26th and the race on the 27th and 28th.
The shipment delay is believed to be a result of recent attacks on vessels utilising the Red Sea by the Iran-backed rebel group Houthis. The situation has led to major disruption for shipments needing to pass through the Bab al-Mandab Strait at the southern end of the Red Sea.
The attacks are reportedly a response to the Israel-Gazai war and have caused shipping companies to divert ships away from the route. This includes ships containing a number of cars due to take part in the Dubai 24.
DSC has reached out to Creventic for comment and will update the story when more information is available.
