2023 Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 class winner Fabio Scherer is set to return to United Autosports for a season of LMP2 Pro class action in the European Le Mans Series next year.
Scherer made his LMP2 debut with United Autosports in the FIA World Endurance Championship back in 2021, celebrating victory at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the opening race of the season, and the 6 Hours of Monza with teammates Filipe Albuquerque and Phil Hanson.
“I am super happy and honoured to be back with United Autosports,” said Scherer. “We had a good time last time and enjoyed great success – but we had some bad luck too. This year, we are looking to win as many races as possible and bring the European Le Mans Series championship home.”
In 2024, Scherer will be reunited with 2021 co-driver Albuquerque in LMP2 Pro, and will fight for overall wins in the team’s the #23 ORECA 07.
“I think it’s going to be a great season,” added Scherer. “I’m really glad to join United Autosports once again and thank the team for the trust they have in me.”
The 24-year-old began his racing career in karts, moving up to Formula 4 and FIA Formula 3, before taking on DTM in 2020 and LMP2 sportscars in 2021.
Since moving into sportscar racing he has competed in the LMP2 classes of the FIA World Endurance Championship, European Le Mans Series and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the highlight his class win back in June with Inter Europol at the centenary edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours.
“It’s really great to have Fabio back with the team,” comments United Autosports CEO Richard Dean. “His transition to LMP2 was so strong, winning his first two races with us in the 2021 WEC.
“Now, we’re a few years down the line and Fabio is a Le Mans winner and WEC vice-champion, with three solid seasons of LMP2 experience under his belt. I can’t wait to get him back in the United Autosports ORECA 07.”
