Lionspeed GP will contest the 2024 season as a standalone team for the first time in 2024.
The team, based not far from the Nürburgring, makes a second significant switch in as many seasons, moving from Audi to Porsche machinery last season, for the coming racing seasoin they have established their own team infrastructure after contesting previously with support from other established outfits, including, in 2023, from Car Collection Motorsport.
Founded in 2019 by drivers Patrick Kolb and Jose Garcia, Lionspeed GP will see Kolb will continue to serve in his role as team principal, while also driving the team’s Porsche 911 GT3 R, which is set to embark on a GT3 campaign on its home circuit, including plans to contest the 52nd running of the Nürburgring 24, which is scheduled to take place on June 1-2.
“While Lionspeed GP is entering its sixth season of racing, our extensive team is composed of professionals with decades of experience in the racing world” said team principal and driver Kolb. “The dedication and efforts of everyone involved in this exciting project has enabled us to grow and led to many achievements and triumphs. In 2024 we are taking the next step and are excited to expand the team’s efforts in technical and operational realms for European and International competitions.”
In addition to its planned GT3 operations, Lionspeed GP will also take part in the full European Campaign in the Hankook 24H Series. Starting with the Hankook 12H Mugello on March 22-24, the team will enter the new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport with Jose Garcia and Daniel Miller as confirmed drivers. The schedule contains three 12-hour races as well as two 24-hour races at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal and Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain.
“We are super excited to be able to join the entire European Championship at Creventic,” Garcia said. “We’ve always enjoyed racing in this Championship, and we think it is a well-organized competition. It is important that we show our commitment by being a full-season entry. We look forward to mixing it up with all the teams out there and Lionspeed is very excited to put the entire team to work for the European championship.”
