Nine-time Le Mans overall winner Tom Kristensen is set to join United Autosports and team chairman Zak Brown for the Peter Auto-organised Estoril Classics meeting in Portugal later this year.
The duo will share driving duties in two cars from Brown’s collection, a 1974 Ford Cologne Capri RS3100 and 1981 Porsche 935, which are maintained operated by United’s large-scale historic racing team.
“I am thoroughly looking forward to a weekend of racing with my good friend Zak,” said Kristensen. “Estoril is a great track, and the Capri and the 935 are two fantastic cars, so when I got the call, it was an easy yes!”
Brown adds that he is excited to compete with Kristensen in Portugal for what will be their first weekend racing together.
“Tom is a legend of the sport – I’m excited to be racing with him. The Capri and the Porsche 935 are two of my favourite cars and we have a good track record in Estoril following the win last year with my buddy Richard Dean. This will be my first time racing with Tom which is going to be awesome … and the goal is the same. We’re going for the win!”
The 1974 Ford Cologne Capri RS3100, which boasts past drivers including Niki Lauda, will contest the Heritage Touring Cup.
This Capri claimed two victories from two starts in the 1974 European Touring Car Championship and is one of only three works RS3100s built.
The 1981 Porsche 935 meanwhile, will compete in the Classic Endurance Racing II class. This model is famous for winning the Daytona 24 Hours and Sebring 12 Hours in the same year (1982).
Brown also took it the top step of the podium at the Estoril Classics with fellow United Autosports team owner Richard Dean last year.
The 2024 Estoril Classics meeting is set to run from October 4th to 6th. It will be streamed live and free on PeterAutoRacing’s YouTube channel.
