Porsche revealed its full 2025 racing plans last weekend at its Night of Champions event in Stuttgart, including its full list of factory, contracted and junior drivers for the forthcoming season.
The list of works drivers formally confirms the newcomer to its stable, with Julien Andlauer promoted to the Penske Hypercar squad, and key departures, including Andre Lotterer, Dane Cameron, Fred Makowiecki and Gianmaria Bruni (featured).
Bruni’s exit comes after a lengthy stint as a factory driver which began in 2017 when he made the headline-grabbing move from Ferrari to Porsche. During his time with the German brand the 43-year-old managed to claim a class win at the Le Mans 24 Hours in GTE Pro, and most recently formed a part of Proton’s LMDh driver crew.
Meanwhile, Michelle Gatting via Porsche’s new Iron Dames collaboration, plus former Audi factory driver Ricardo Feller, have been added to the contracted driver roster.
As for its Junior programme, German racer Theo Oeverhaus has become the newest candidate. Following an intensive selection process, the 19-year-old from Lower Saxony beat eight other talented youngsters from the national and regional Porsche Carrera Cups.
Next season, the 2023/2024 champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East and third overall in this year’s Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland will receive funding of up to 225,000 euros and contest the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, among others.
In the Supercup he will compete against the Frenchman Alessandro Ghiretti, for whom 2025 marks his second year as a Porsche Junior.
There were another of other interesting snippets from the night, including the news that Joel Sturm was awarded the Porsche Cup, which goes to the “best amateur driver at the wheel of a Porsche race car” each year.
The German topped the leaderboard with 11,707 points, besting Alex Malykhin (2nd/10,447 points). Together with Malykhin, Sturm clinched the FIA WEC LMGT3 Drivers’ title with Manthey Pure Rxcing. The Rhinelander receives 150,000 euros in prize money.
Third place was shared by two Americans, Adam Adelson and Elliott Skeer, who achieved numerous successes at the wheel of Wright Motorsports’ Porsche 911 GT3 R.
In the LMDh ranks Porsche noted that it will make a final decision on whether or not it will compete at Le Mans with a third 963 after claiming an invitation via its success in IMSA GTP.
It also outlined the plans for its remaining 963 customers Proton Competition and JDC-Miller.
While Proton appears fully confirmed for a WEC programme in Hypercar, there was no mention of a return to IMSA, despite the fact that its #5 car featured on the provisional full-season entry list. Instead, Porsche stated that “one customer” will compete in IMSA: JDC Miller.
There was DTM news too, with a note that Manthey is working towards continuing its involvement in the series in 2025. Allied Racing team, which has enjoyed success in Porsche’s one-make cups, among others, aims to establish itself in the German racing series too. The Bavarian outfit will field a pair of Porsche 911 GT3 R with the former Porsche Junior Bastian Buus and Feller.
