Rexy’s back-to-back wins in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship have sparked a sibling dinosaur rivalry within AO Racing.
That’s why AO Racing has announced that it will bring back ‘Roxy’, Rexy’s sister, to represent the Porsche team at the upcoming Monterey Sportscar Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
The pink-liveried #77 Porsche 911 GT3 R has not yet won in IMSA after four appearances across 2023 and 2024. Last year, the ‘Roxy’ car finished fourth in GTD PRO at Road America, and seventh at VIRginia International Raceway.
Both Rexy and Roxy will also appear at Air | Water, a Porsche enthusiast car show, at the Orange County Fairgrounds on Saturday.
“Rexy has had quite the year, starting off with an incident at the end of the race, which resulted in several visits to the orthodontist to fix his smile,” said Team Principal Gunnar Jeannette.
“Coming back from that and achieving two back-to-back wins at Sebring and Long Beach with his braces was a perfect rebound. With Rexy’s win tally now at five, he has a very jealous sister in Roxy, who is waiting for another turn to get her first victory. We at AO Racing thought this was the perfect time to bring Rexy and Roxy out together for their first public appearance at Air Water before they go their separate ways.”
Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler will be back behind the wheel for AO Racing in GTD PRO, after Jonny Edgar and Laurens Vanthoor rode Rexy to a GTD class win in Long Beach two weeks ago.
Heinrich, Bachler, and Endurance Cup co-driver Alessio Picariello won last time out at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring to move up to second in the GTD PRO championship standings.
