Top Qualifying Postponed After Vanthoor Off (Updated)

UPDATE: The #16 Scherer Sport PHX Porsche will take no further part in the meeting after its heavy shunt at Aremberg that brought out the red flag.

A team spokesperson has confirmed to DSC that the 911 is damaged beyond repair and has been withdrawn from the event. The team will not utilise a spare chassis and instead focus its efforts on the #1 Audi.

As for Vanthoor, Scherer Sport PHX added that he is ‘ok’ and was released from the circuit medical centre after being seen by both the circuit doctor and Porsche’s dedicated doctor.

Top Qualifying for the 2025 Nürburgring 24 Hours has been postponed following a sizable incident on the Nordschleife for one of the contending cars.

The session was red-flagged before the first flurry of times in the shootout came through after Laurens Vanthoor had a big off at Aremberg in the #16 Scherer Sport PHX Porsche 911 GT3 R 992.

The Belgian, who snuck into the shootout with late heroics last night, was a passenger after clipping the inside kerb at Schwedenkreuz, which unsettled the car and sent him down the hill and into the guardrails at high speed.

The damage to the car was severe, but thankfully, Vanthoor was able to climb out of the car and walk away from the incident. We now await news from the team on whether the car can be repaired in time for tomorrow’s race.

“The guardrail must be repaired at the scene of the accident in Aremberg, so that the restart of the top qualifying is expected to be delayed by at least 90 minutes,” a statement from the official N24 live-ticker says.

“In the meantime, the race of the Cup and Touring Car Trophy will be brought to the Grand Prix course, which is expected to start around 2:30 p.m.

“The restart is planned for 4:00 p.m. The starting grid takes place directly in the pit lane. From there, the participants drive an introductory round on the Nordschleife and then a single flying round. Due to the delay, it will probably be necessary to shorten the subsequent Qualifying 3.”
