Marcus Clutton topped the British GT opening free practice session at Spa-Francorchamps for the #67 Orange Racing by JMH McLaren GT3 Evo.
He set a benchmark lap time of 2:17.004 in the #67 McLaren ahead of the #97 Beechdean Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo of Tom Wood.
Wood’s 2:17.263 lap time narrowly beat Callum MacLeod’s #3 Optimum Motorsport McLaren by 0.043 seconds.
Despite this, his teammate Matt Topham made contact with the #42 2 Seas Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Kiern Jewiss, causing the session’s only red flag disruption, an incident set to be investigated afterwards.
Four-time British GT champion Jonny Adam finished up fourth fastest in the #7 Blackthorn Aston Martin with a 2:17.375 lap time ahead of fifth-placed Matt Griffin.
Griffin’s 2:17.429 lap time in the #55 Spirit of Race Ferrari 296 GT3 put them ahead of Marvin Kirchhöfer’s #77 Optimum McLaren (2:17.434).
Hugo Cook claimed seventh in the #1 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 with a 2:17.573 ahead of Jewiss’ 2:17.579, only one of just four laps the #42 Mercedes-AMG driver completed.
Patrick Kujala, replacing Sandy Mitchell, who is competing at the IMSA Six Hours of the Glen this weekend, took ninth with a 2:17.667 lap time in the #78 Barwell Lamborghini.
Kevin Tse rounded out the top 10 with his 2:17.793 at the wheel of the #18 2 Seas Mercedes-AMG.
Meanwhile, in the GT4 category, Josh Miller was quickest in the #84 Mahiki Racing Ginetta G56 GT4 Evo, having set a 2:28.482.
Century Motorsport’s #71 BMW M4 GT4 Evo took second place owing to Charlie Robertson and his 2:28.687 lap time, as Luca Hopkinson followed in third for the #17 Optimum Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 (2:29.427).
Phil Keen claimed fourth in the #30 Team Parker Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 with his 2:29.651, and Chris Salkeld rounded out the top five with a 2:29.976 lap time in the #14 Century BMW.
Pre-qualifying will continue the British GT track action at 13:05 local time or 12:05 BST for another 60-minute session.
