Ligier Reveals Endurance-Focused JS2 RS

And upgrade package for one-make JS2 R

Seven years on from the unveiling of the Ligier JS2 R, Ligier has taken the wraps off a new iteration of the concept: the JS2 RS, designed for endurance racing and extreme track work.

Built around a new carbon monocoque chassis that’s FIA EII SC homologated and compliant with 2025 LMP3 static tests, the JS2 RS features an homologated roll cage, Zylon side protection panels, a front crash box, hydraulic power steering, and a BREMBO steel braking system built for 24-hour races.

It is powered by a 3.5-litre Ford V6 Ecoboost engine that delivers up to 650 horsepower, paired with a SADEV SL 90-20 EVO gearbox.

Meanwhile, on the electronics side it’s equipped with a MoTeC ECU, Bosch ABS, and traction control. And aerodynamically, a carbon splitter, underfloor, and rear diffuser give it a much more muscular and purposeful look than its more understated JS2 R sibling.

Despite the comprehensive upgrades, JS2 RS still emphasises controlled running costs, enhanced safety and extended service intervals in common with the JS2 R.

Prices start at €255,000 before tax.

“With the Ligier JS2 RS, we wanted to take performance further while keeping what made the JS2 R successful—an affordable, reliable, and fun car to drive for all enthusiasts, especially gentleman drivers,”  says Jacques Nicolet, the president of Ligier Automotive.

“The Ligier JS2 RS embodies our vision of a modern GT—a fusion of technology, safety, and performance, all while keeping the racing spirit that’s driven Ligier for over 50 years.”

The JS2 RS is the latest step on the ladder from Ligier, which began with the iconic JS2 more than half a century ago and was followed by the JS2 R, launched in 2018.

The JS2 R honours the original Ford Cosworth DFV-powered JS2 that claimed second place at the 1975 24 Hours of Le Mans. `

It has been a hit and sold 50 units in its first year. Today, more than 120 examples are in circulation, racing around the globe in the successful JS Cup France, Ligier European Series, and select endurance races.

New Upgrades for the Ligier JS2 R

In addition to launching the JS2 RS, Ligier Automotive has revealed a package of new upgrades for the JS2 R.

These upgrades include a new braking system with racing callipers, reinforced pivots and improved gearbox lubrication for the 3MO transmission to enhance durability.

The kit will be mandatory starting in the 2026 season in the Ligier JS Cup France and Ligier European Series.

In parallel, the 3.7L Ford V6 engine—discontinued in 2023—has been replaced by the 3.5L Ford V6, now fitted on all new Ligier JS2 R models. This change will be optional for the 2026 and 2027 seasons in the Ligier championships, but mandatory starting in 2028, or earlier in the event of an engine failure.

An optional “endurance” version of the Sadev gearbox is also available. Designed to handle high power outputs in long-distance races, it is not mandatory in Ligier championships. Where different engines (3.5L / 3.7L) and gearbox combinations coexist, a Balance of Performance (BoP) will be applied to ensure fair competition.

All new Ligier JS2 R cars produced from 2025 onward will be delivered with the new braking/suspension kit and the 3.5L engine.
