The Ginetta G56 GT2 will make its racing debut this weekend during the GT2 European Series season finale at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain.
Ginetta chairman Lawrence Tomlinson, and his son Freddie, will share the #62 G56 GT2 in the Pro-Am class, as part of a 10-car field. The car will be run by French outfit Classic & Modern Racing (CMR). CMR currently races the Ginetta G56 GT4 Evo in both the GT4 European Series and the FFSA GT Championship.
It will be the Yorkshire marque’s second-ever GT2 European Series appearance, after Lawrence Tomlinson made a one-off start at Spa-Francorchamps in 2024 with the G56 GTX. The GTX, an invitational entry Ginetta ran to learn more about the GT2 formula, provided the starting point for the GT2.
The Ginetta G56 GT2 is powered by a supercharged 6.3-litre V8 manufactured in-house, and provides a new step on the Ginetta ladder, adding to its Junior, Academy, GT4 and LMP3 offerings.
The car was announced in May earlier this year, with this weekend’s entry the precursor to a full customer rollout ahead of the 2026 season.
GT2 European Series organiser SRO will be hoping that the arrival of Ginetta helps to rejuvenate its GT2 formula, which has had an average entry of fewer than 10 cars this season. The series is set to receive an overhaul for 2026 with the introduction of a new Silver class and the SRO GT Academy initiative.
Mike Simpson, Chief Executive of Ginetta Motorsport, said: “We’re excited to announce that our all-new GT2 car will be making its competitive debut in the SRO European GT2 series this weekend in Barcelona. This marks the start of a significant new chapter for Ginetta as a brand, taking us into new territory.
“Our GT2 – the most exciting car on the grid – opens up a world of possibilities for our drivers, who remain central to all that we do. It gives them direct access to the very best global events and series, all within the supportive, sector-leading Ginetta structure that we’ve worked tirelessly to develop and hone over decades. This is a truly significant moment for the Ginetta brand, and I can’t wait to see how the car performs this weekend.”
The final round of the 2025 GT2 European Series takes place from 10th to 12th October 2025.
