Legends Of Le Mans Extend GTE Eligibility

The new for 2026 Legends of Le Mans Series is taking shape.

The series, set to support the 2026 FIA WEC at Imola, Spa and Bahrain, as well as a multi-race appearance at the 2026 Classic Le Mans, is set to feature LMP1, LMP2 and GTE machinery with a 34 car grid cap (14 x LMP1, 10 x LMP2, 10 x GTE).

At launch, the intention was to welcome LMP1 cars from 2006 to 2012 (no hybrids permitted), LMP2s from 2006 to 2015, and GTEs from 2011 to 2015.

That has now changed somewhat for the GTE class, cars with homologations up to 2020 are now invited which allows significantly more cars to enter including the last two iterations of Porsche 911 RSR, the Ford GT and the Ferrari 488 GTE.

All cars taking part must have a racing record at at least one of the following:

  • 24 Hours of Le Mans
  • 24 Hours of Daytona
  • WEC (World Endurance Championship)
  • ELMS (European Le Mans Series)
  • IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) and/ or
  • ILMC (Intercontinental Le Mans Cup)

Amongst the paddock insiders working hard to build the grid is ex RLR MSport Team Manager Alan McGarrity, who told DSC:

“There’s a lot of eligible cars and a fair amount of interest, in particular with the change to the eligibility period for GTE. I’m talking to a fair number of interested parties who have significant cars that could now be entered, and it looks likely that there will be a strong and representative GTE grid that can be drawn together.”

The intention of the Series is to supply plenty of available track time with a pair of Free Practice sessions, two qualifying sessions, and a pair of 40-minute races on the agenda for the WEC supporting events.
