Gomersall Motorsport and Miedecke Motorsport have outlined their plans for the upcoming GT4 Australia season, which they will contest with Ford Mustang GT4s.
Gomersall has confirmed it has retained an identical driver line-up for the campaign, for which the team has switched to exclusively fielding Ford Mustang GT4s.
Both Jake Camilleri and Glenn Walker, who will compete as solo drivers in Silver and Am respectively, have announced that they will return alongside reigning Silver-Am drivers’ champions Aaron Seton and Jason Gomersall, who were confirmed earlier this month.
Camilleri made the switch to the Mustang GT4 mid-season last year, quickly finding success with a race win in his first round with the car at Sandown Raceway.
“After last year, where we made a mid-season switch into the Ford Mustang, the final two rounds weren’t ideal, but I was still getting to know the car after that big debut win at Sandown, which was awesome,” Camilleri said.
“My goal, even if it’s a bit ambitious given the quality of competition in the Silver Cup, is to be in contention for the class title. That comes down to more podiums and more consistency, because at the end of the day, being on the podium puts you in the title fight.
“Qualifying will be a big focus for me this year, because that’s probably where I lacked a little last season. A better starting position helps you avoid the mid-pack battles and the incidents that can come with them, which caught me out in the final rounds last year.”
Walker, who is entering his second year of car racing, drove a previous generation BMW M4 GT4 F82 last season and claimed multiple podium finishes in Am. The Australian, following discussions with the team, has decided to follow Camilleri’s example and swap to the Mustang GT4 for the upcoming campaign.
“The switch to the Ford Mustang made sense for myself,” Walker said.
“I had my rookie year with Gomersall Motorsport last year in what was the older BMW M4 GT4 F82, which was an excellent car and one we learnt a lot from, but as a team, we talked it through and it made sense to standardise with the Mustang.
“This year is going to be a bit of a learning curve for me to get my head around the Mustang, but I’m super excited to be stepping into a current-generation car and getting back on track again at Phillip Island.
“Last year was my genuine rookie season and the first time I’d ever done door-to-door racing. To say it was a year of lessons learned is an understatement. One of the biggest lessons for me was not having expectations, but instead focusing on preparation and the process, and hoping for a bit of luck along the way.
“My biggest takeaway from last year was that consistency is key. Finishing races is key, and that’s something we’ll really be focusing on this year. At the same time, Gomersall Motorsport is a great community of friends, a very professional team and we take it seriously, but we also have a lot of fun on race weekends and really enjoy the racing and the paddock atmosphere.”
Meanwhile, Ford Racing supported team Miedecke Motorsport, has expanded to a two-car effort for 2026.
Two-time Silver drivers’ championship runner-up George Miedecke once again features in the driver line-up, but will have a new co-driver this year in rookie Blake Tracey.
Teenager Tracey is entering only his third year of car racing, and moves to GT4 Australia after being a race winner in Trans Am last season.
The new, sister Mustang GT4 will be piloted by Cooper Cutts and Blake Dowdall, who were champions in Australia’s Radical Cup and Formula Ford series respectively last year.
Both cars will compete in the Silver Cup class.
Miedecke, alongside Supercars Championship-bound Rylan Gray, has been a consistent threat in GT4 Australia for the past two seasons. The pair scored nine wins together, including the Ford Mustang GT4’s first international victory at Phillip Island in 2024, and missed out on the last two drivers’ titles by a combined total of only eight points.
“Rylan’s progression has really shaped who we are as a team and influenced our decision-making when it came to choosing our new drivers,” Miedecke said.
“Finding and developing the next generation, and giving back to a sport we’ve been fortunate to benefit from, is now a big part of Miedecke Motorsport’s identity. And with that, we had some fantastic options this year.
“Ultimately, we chose to back young talent with drivers who probably wouldn’t otherwise have had the opportunity to step into a GT car this season and help showcase what they can do. Blake [Tracey] might seem like he’s come out of nowhere, but what an exciting talent he is. Having already seen him behind the wheel of our car, I can tell you the hype is real.
“We’re also incredibly excited to have Cooper and Blake [Dowdall] in the second car. Cooper has transitioned remarkably quickly to driving a sedan and has showed a lot of promise. He’s a calculating and considered driver, but is also highly capable of putting together some real good laps. Blake is very analytical and is a proven champion totally focused on his racing craft and getting results, so they’ll both be great to watch.”
The 2026 Monochrome GT4 Australia season begins at GT Festival Phillip Island on 27th to 29th March 2026.
