The IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge returns this weekend for its double-header sprint round at Circuit of the Americas, supporting the NASCAR Cup and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series races in Austin, Texas.
Ten LMP3 cars have been entered alongside seven GT4 cars in the GSX class; just like the Daytona round, there are three current-generation Ligier JS P325s powered by the Toyota twin-turbo V6, and seven last-generation LMP3s from Ligier and Duqueine powered by the naturally-aspirated Nissan V8.
Once again, there are no entries in the GTDX class for late-model GT3 cars.
Óscar Tunjo swept both races at Daytona in his #1 Duqueine D08-Nissan, despite carrying a significant weight handicap along with the other previous-gen LMP3 cars.
The current-gen Ligier JS P325s are driven once again by Shopify Racing’s Travis Hill, and the Toney Driver Development duo of Brady Golan and Lincoln Day.
Toyota Driver Development (TD2) standout Westin Workman headlines the seven-car GSX field in his #8 RAFA Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, coming off two wins in two races at Daytona, and looking to build on that momentum against a slightly smaller field of GT4 cars.
One new addition to the field is local driver and team Marc Austin and Mad Joker Racing, running the #22 Mercedes-AMG GT4 prepared by GTD Michelin Endurance Cup competitors Lone Star Racing.
