HWA has revealed the first images of its EVO.R, which will compete in the SP-X class at this year’s ADAC 24H Nürburgring.
The Affalterbach-based organisation is set to field three examples of the car, based on its limited-production HWA EVO super saloon, at the race. This is an expansion of its initially planned two-car effort, due to the interest in the programme.
The HWA EVO, in turn, is based on the 1992 DTM Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II, with the EVO.R retaining the look of the DTM icon, though significant work has been done beneath the skin to convert the car into a modern 24-hour racer. This includes a new twin-turbo three-litre V6 engine.
Each car will sport a heritage livery, with period sponsors Kärcher and SONAX confirmed to be supporting the effort.
Three-time 24H Nürburgring winner Markus Winklehock has been added to the team’s line-up, which also includes Sebastian Asch and Luca Ludwig. Asch and Ludwig’s fathers, Roland and Klaus, were both race winners aboard the 190E 2.5-16 Evo II in 1992.
“Having been involved in top-level motorsport at the Nürburgring for over 25 years, the circuit is like a second home to us,” said Martin Marx, CEO of HWA. “We are naturally incredibly excited to finally be competing in a car of our own, but to see that excitement matched by so many drivers, fans, customers, and sponsors makes it all the more special.”
Track testing for the effort is set to begin this week at Portimão.
The 2026 ADAC 24H Nürburgring will be held on the weekend of 14th to 17th May 2026.
