Acura GTP driver Renger van der Zande will participate in this year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours, aboard one of HWA’s EVO.Rs.
The HWA EVO.R, which has its roots in Mercedes-Benz’s iconic 1992 190E 2.5-16 Evo II DTM machine, is a limited-edition super saloon which will compete in the SP-X class. The car was unveiled last month, and has already successfully completed multiple days of testing.
A five-day outing at Portimão, which included wet and night running, saw the car cover over 2000km at the Portuguese venue. Van der Zande then joined the team earlier this week for the car’s maiden run on the Nordschleife, where he turned his first laps in the EVO.R.
The 40-year-old last raced at the Nürburgring in 2023, when he competed for Audi squad Scherer Sport PHX. The Dutchman previously finished as runner-up in 2016, aboard HTP-Motorsport’s Mercedes-AMG GT3.
Van der Zande joins three-time 24H Nürburgring winner Markus Winkelhock, Sebastian Asch and Luca Ludwig as confirmed drivers for the team, which is set to field three cars at this year’s race. Other drivers who have tested the car include Adam Adelson, Lance David Arnold, Evald Holstad and Christian Gebhardt.
The 2026 ADAC 24H Nürburgring will be held on the 14th to 17th May 2026.
