Ahead of making its 24 Hours of Le Mans debut this weekend, Genesis has revealed its Magma GT3 Concept, the most significant clue yet that the Korean marque is considering expanding its sportscar presence beyond its current GMR-001 Hypercar programme.
The car, developed in alignment with GT3 technical regulations, is not based on an existing road car, nor is it a full confirmation of a future GT3 or LMGT3 FIA WEC programme, but acts as a hint as to one direction the Korean marque might go as it looks to grow its motorsport presence.
The Mamga GT3 Concept was developed with a focus on performance, and acts as a testbed for how racing-focused design can influence future vehicles from the brand.
“The Genesis Magma GT3 Concept is one potential future direction for Genesis Magma Racing, alongside our FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar programme, as we continue to grow in support of the Genesis brand,” said Genesis Magma Racing team principal Cyril Abiteboul.
“From the outset, we have stated that Genesis Magma Racing is a long-term project, and this concept represents one possible avenue for future expansion. Like Hypercar, GT3 has become one of motorsport’s great recent success stories.
“Having Genesis and Genesis Magma Racing represented in GT3 would create a closer connection between the road-going and racing sides of the brand while further strengthening our profile in world motorsport.”
Should Genesis go on to launch a GT3 effort, it would be the first non-Japanese Asian manufacturer to do so, and the first new addition to the category since Corvette and Ford in 2024.
Alongside the Magma GT3 Concept, Genesis also showcased an updated version of the Magma GT Concept, which was first unveiled last November, with new interior.
“The Magma GT Concept and Magma GT3 Concept represent two distinct yet connected expressions of Genesis performance,” said Genesis’ chief creative officer, Luc Donckerwolke.
“The Magma GT Concept embodies our vision of luxury and athleticism on the road, while the Magma GT3 Concept translates that philosophy into the racing environment, where every element is driven by performance, efficiency and purpose. Together, they demonstrate how Genesis is exploring the full spectrum of high performance—from refined grand touring to uncompromising motorsport.”
