Texas 8 Hour At CoTA To Replace Indy Race On 2027 IGTC Calendar

The 2027 Intercontinental GT Challenge calendar has been released, and it features one key change: Circuit of The Americas replaces Indianapolis as the venue for the series’ 8-hour race in the United States.

The race, named the ‘Texas 8 Hour’, will take place on the 8th and 9th of May, and serve as the second stop on the schedule.

“After years of running in Indianapolis, we have been informed that there was a possibility of repaving of the track that may put our event in danger,” Stephane Ratel explained at today’s SRO Press Conference ahead of the Spa 24 Hours.

“For GT World Challenge is not such a problem, because we can go and run somewhere else, but for Intercontinental, that’s a problem.

“So we have decided to move, and we’re very happy to announce that we will be running the Texas 8 Hours at Circuit of The Americas, which happens to be our most successful event venue in America, where we have the most public.

“It’s a circuit very well suited for GT racing. It’s a circuit where you can do a lot of activities, we will do it on a Saturday race with something in the evening. We believe it can be a very, very successful event and maybe grow into the event we need in America. I hope this one will become the big one in America.”

As per tradition, the 2027 schedule will kick off at Bathurst with the 12 Hour on February 13th and 14th. Then, after visiting CoTA, the Nürburgring 24 Hours takes the third slot on May 29th and 30th, before the Spa 24 Hours on June 24th to 27th. Notably, as it stands, the 2027 Spa 24 clashes once again with the IMSA Endurance Cup round at Watkins Glen.

The fourth and final round will take place at Suzuka, with the 1000km race on September 4th and 5th, to be held once again in partnership with SUPER GT.

SUPER GT GT300 teams are already eligible to race in the Suzuka 1000km, but from next year, those GT300 teams will be able to use their tyres with a special Balance of Performance in place – as both GT300 and GT500 classes will move to a single-make tyre in 2027. They will use the SUPER GT championship round at Suzuka to help evaluate the BOP for the event.
