Amongst the positive news that fills the traditional SRO Press Conference at the Spa 24 Hours, there was confirmation that two long-time planned projects will be paused, the FIA Motorsport Games & GTX World Tour
FIA Motorsport Games
After events in 2019 (Rome/ Vallelunga) and 2022 (Marseille/ Paul Ricard), the intention was to stage the Games on a new biennial basis at a location outside Europe.
Stephane Ratel, though, was clear, advanced plans at an unannounced venue collapsed very recently, leading to a further reconsideration of the future for the event as a whole with Ratel suggesting that a biennial plan was proving to be more than ambitious and that potentially it might return on a four-year cycle.
GTX World Tour
The GT-X WORLD TOUR was launched some years ago as a conceptual road show of the most technologically advanced cars powered by alternative energies to petroleum.
The concept was partially touristic and partially competitive and aimed to become a platform of choice for Manufacturers to showcase their latest technological developments.
The competitive side was promoted as including a number of different challenges, including circuit racing, hill climbs, rally stages and standing-start drag competitions.
Here too though there have been significant challenges with logistics complications putting paid to the initial plan for the GTX product to be a ‘World Tour’ – instead SRO refocused on GTX recreating a version of the Targa Florio. Those plans too though have now been scuppered by the current closure of the Enna Pergusa circuit which would be required as an operating base for the competitive parts of the concept.
There is no current published plan for the GTX concept to return.
