Spinelli Puts Chicago Performance Lamborghini On Top In Pre-Qualifying

#64 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 leads back-to-back sessions heading into Indy 8 Hour Qualifying

They were the quickest team last night, and again this morning, the #64 Chicago Performance & Tuning Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 set the fastest time in Pre-Qualifying for the DESDER Indianapolis 8 Hour.

In a repeat of yesterday’s Free Practice, Loris Spinelli set the fastest time of the 90-minute session aboard the #64 Lamborghini, though today’s best time of 1:23.503 was almost two-tenths quicker than his leading time last night – on a cool, cloudy morning, cooler than yesterday.

Should Qualifying this afternoon be cancelled for any reason, the times from Pre-Qualifying will determine the grid for Saturday’s main race, which would put the #64 Lamborghini Huracán on the pole position.

All 90 minutes were run without any red flags or interruptions, and 25 of the 28 participating cars (though only 27 will race) were within one second of Spinelli’s top time.

In second place was the #6 Dollahite Racing Ford Mustang GT3 Evo, driven by Christopher Mies, who set a 1:23.622.

Third-fastest overall and fastest in the Pro class was the #8 McCann Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R, driven by Alessio Picariello, who set a 1:23.707. Picariello and McCann Racing led a block of Porsche customer teams near the top of the leaderboard, as six of them cracked the overall top ten.

That included Ayhancan Güven in the #32 GMG Racing Porsche in fourth, Laurin Heinrich in the #31 Wright Motorsports Porsche in fifth, Alex Fontana in the #79 Tsunami RT Porsche in sixth, and Danny Dyszelski in the #28 RS1 Porsche in seventh. The #017 Kellymoss Porsche (Colin Braun) completed this group in ninth.

Completing the top ten overall were a pair of BMW M4 GT3 EVOs: The #29 Turner Motorsport BMW (Robby Foley) was eighth, and the #14 Riley Technologies BMW (Jesse Krohn) was tenth, all within half a second of the time set by the sole Lamborghini in the field.

In a close running order, the third-fastest Pro class car (#80 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO) was only 17th fastest, but the #80 car completed a trouble-free session after its brake rotor explosion last night in Free Practice.

Ben Keating and Mad Joker Racing led the Am class with a 1:24.619 in the #11 Mercedes-AMG. Meanwhile, the #67 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo was limited to just four laps, none at representative pace, due to mechanical issues.

Qualifying for the final Indianapolis 8 Hour begins with three-stage Qualifying at 3:35 PM ET (local time), followed by the 15-minute Superpole session at 5:35 PM ET.
