The GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli will finish its 2026 season with a super Sunday shootout at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, Portugal this weekend, with a 17-car field headlined by the debut of the Ligier JS2 RS.
The field is made up of three Silver Cup entries, 10 Pro-Am cars and four Masters runners, with both the Pro-Am and overall titles still up for grabs.
Silver Cup Drivers’ champions Ethan Gialdini and Mikkel Njor lead the battle for the inaugural overall Drivers’ title, after the pair have won four races aboard their #3 CMR Ginetta G56 GT2.
Stefan Rosina, who will race solo aboard the #18 LP Racing Maserati GT2 this weekend, is 38 points behind in second, and one point clear of the #111 SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm Mercedes-AMG pairing of David Thilenius and Jay Mo Härtling.
Masters’ champion Philippe Prette completes the list of mathematical contenders for outright glory, with the #1 LP Racing Maserati racer 47 points behind.
Gialdini/Njor and Rosina are joined in the Silver Cup this weekend by the #6 i4Race Maserati of Antoine Potty, with the Belgian returning for the first time since his major accident at Misano in July.
Pro-Am is both the biggest entry with 10 cars and the closest title fight. Thilenius and Härtling lead by just nine points from Lawrence Tomlinson and Mike Simpson in the #62 CMR Ginetta. They may have three wins to the Ginetta crew’s two, but Tomlinson and Simpson have out-scored the Mercedes-AMG pair at each of the last two events to dramatically close the gap.
Marius Aigner and Reinhard Kofler also cannot be discounted in third, albeit they have 28 points to make up. However, the #119 MZR Motorsportzentrum Ried KTM drivers have won two of the last four races. Nil Montserrat and Alberto de Martin complete the title-challenging quartet, with their #115 NM Racing Team Mercedes-AMG needing to score big to overturn a 44-point gap.
In the Teams’ Championship, SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm leads by 19 points over CMR, with MZR Motorsportzentrum Ried and NM Racing Team also in mathematical contention.
Iron Dames drivers Sarah Bovy and Laura van den Hengel will be back in action in their SP Racing-run #85 Maserati and hunting a strong end to the campaign, while we will also get our first look at a Ligier in action thanks to a new JS2 RS entry from former champions High Class Racing. Audunn Gudmundsson and Anders Fjordbach will share the #77 entry.
The Masters title may be settled in favour of Prette, but there’s still honours available with RTR Projects’ teammates Viktor Mraz and Petr Lisa/Ondrej Rokos in a close fight for second in the Drivers’ standings.
Their combined efforts mean that the Masters Teams’ Championship is still up for grabs, with LP Racing heading RTR Projects by 30 points. LP Racing, notably, scored an outright podium sweep the last time the GT2 European Series back in 2023.
With a healthy 61-point lead in the SRO GT Academy points, Härtling is the favourite for the title, and with it would land one of the biggest prizes in the sport – a fully funded season in the 2027 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup with a Mercedes-AMG customer team.
However, he still has work to do as points can be both scored and deducted. Ethan Gialdini has scored superbly in recent rounds to sit second, while Härtling’s Schnitzelalm by SR Motorsport teammate Moritz Wiskirchen is third.
The final round of the 2026 GT2 European Series season will take place at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, Portimão from 16th to 18th October, with other races taking place on Sunday 18th October.
