Titles On The Line In GT4 European Series Portimão Finale

All three GT4 European Series titles are still to be decided ahead of this weekend’s season finale at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, Portugal, which will see 36 cars battle it out across a pair of sprint races.

The 4.6-kilometre venue is an unfamiliar one to the GT4 European Series, with this its first appearance on the schedule. The track, did, however, host the GT4 European Cup in 2009 and 2010.

17 cars are entered into the Silver Cup, which will feature a seven-way battle for the Drivers’ title.

Elite Motorsport’s Charlie Hart and McKenzy Cresswell became the first drivers to knock Enrico Förderer and Cedric Fuchs off the top of the Silver points table after a stellar last event for the $78 McLaren Artura GT4 pair at Zandvoort.

Two wins and a near maximum score – they only missed out on a single bonus point for pole – catapulted Hart and Cresswell into a 16-point lead. The pair have now won three of the last four races and finished no lower than second in five of the last six, meaning they have title-winning momentum heading to the finale.

In contrast the second half of the year has been a struggle for #111 SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm Mercedes-AMG GT4 drivers Förderer and Fuchs, who have racked up just nine points in total from the last four races. Portimão could change that though as the drivers are familiar with the circuit having both raced there in the GT4 Winter Series earlier in the year.

Of the other contenders, Gabriele Piana and Thomas Rackl have kept the top two honest in the #12 Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport BMW M4 GT4. Twice winners this year, a third podium of the year at Zandvoort keeps them third in the standings, 22 points down on the #78 McLaren and the last of the leading challengers.

Four further crews can still take the Silver crown, but most need a miracle to do so. Sam Paley sits fourth in the #62 TeamFloral Ford Mustang, while reigning champions Robert Consani and Benjamin Lariche have turned their disappointing season around with consistent scores lately, but with 47 points to make up aboard the #1 Team Speedcar Audi R8 LMS GT4 they must hope for major drama.

Likewise, Gregory Guilvert and Paul Petit’s sister #8 Team Speedcar Audi has been rapid but unlucky, while Speedy Motorsport’s Lachlan Evennett and Mees Houben are the last pair mathematically capable of stealing the title aboard the #4 Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo2.

In the Silver Teams’ Championship, Elite Motorsport leads Team Speedcar by just three points, with SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm and Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport at 17 and 23 points back respectively. TeamFloral, at a 42-point deficit, also remains in mathematical contention.

Not so long ago the Pro-Am Drivers’ fight looked finished in favour of Schubert Motorsport’s Joakim Walde and Victor Bouveng, but a clean sweep for Viny Beltramelli and Sacha Bottemanne in the Netherlands has closed things up dramatically.

The #3 Team Speedcar Audi duo became the first crew in the class to achieve a perfect score, with their Zandvoort double taking their total to four wins for the season and hacking a chunk of points from Schubert’s lead. In contrast, Walde and Bouveng have won just twice aboard the #98 but their greater consistency means they still lead by 30 points in what has become a two-horse race for the title.

Charlie Robertson and Ravi Ramyead’s hopes may have ended at Zandvoort, but the #71 Elite Motorsport McLaren pair enjoyed their strongest event yet last time out and could disrupt the top two. Razoon – more than racing’s #70 BMW shared by Chris Salkeld and Daniel Drexel will also be one to watch, having won twice this year.

Both Elite Motorsport and Razoon – more than racing are still mathematical factors in the Pro-Am Teams’ Championship, where Schubert Motorsport heads Team Speedcar by 32 points.

Daniel Blickle stands on the brink of becoming solo Am Drivers’ Champion, with the #30 W&S Motorsport Porsche driver leading his own team-mate Max Kronberg by 36 points after Kronberg missed the season opener in France. In reality, Blickle’s only challenger is the #55 Gazoo Racing Sweden Supra of Mikael and Christoffer Brunnhagen, which runs 46 points behind.

With only three entries in Am, this means that finishing either race will guarantee Blickle the Drivers’ crown and W&S Motorosport the Teams’ title.

For the finale, there are new entries from local teams Racar Motorsport, Sports & You and Gianfranco Motorsport.

In Pro-Am, Racar Motorsport will field the #28 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 Evo for Mathieu Martins and Vasco Oliveira, with Gianfranco Motorsport running the #88 Toyota for Alexandre Areia and Nuno Afonso. Sports & You is yet to confirm the class for its #21 Toyota, which doesn’t have any drivers listed.

The final round of the 2026 GT4 European Series season will be held at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, Portugal on 16th to 18th October 2026, with a race apiece on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th.
