Richard Westbrook claimed a hard won Petit Le Mans GTLM pole position for the #67 Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT in a session that saw the whole 10 car field separated by less than three quarters of a second.
After being in the mix in the last pair of Free Practice sessions Westbrook delivered a late session lap of 1:18.131, enough to edge away from the #3 Corvette, Antonio Garcia’s best effort beaten by just a tenth and a half.
Toni Vilander (#62 Risi Competizione Ferrari) and Joey Hand (#66 Ford GT) completed the second row in the class with the Championship leading #4 Corvette of Tommy Milner ending the session seventh and last year’s class and overall race winner Nick Tandy 10th in his #911 Porsche.
GTD
Jeroen Bleekemolen did all he could to put pressure on the runaway class Championship leading Scuderia Corsa Ferrari by putting his #33 ViperExchange Dodge Viper GT3-R on the class pole with a 1:21.305, the team’s first pole position of the 2016 season.
He’ll be joined on the front row by the #73 Park Place Porsche 911 GT3R, Matt McMurry beaten to pole by just under half a second.
Row two in the class sees the second Porsche in GTD entry, the #23 Heart of Racing/Team Seattle Porsche, qualified by ‘Super’ Mario Farnbacher start alongside the Championship leading #63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3, Christina Nielsen on qualifying duty at Road Atlanta.
