Comfortable Lead In Am For AF Corse After Podium In Japan

Three cars left in the title race

The #83 AF Corse Ferrari 458 GTE of Francois Perrodo, Manu Collard and Rui Aguas still holds a comfortable lead in both the Drivers and Teams Championships with 155 points.

The result in Fuji though saw the gap closed by eight points to the new second placed car in the championship, the #98 Aston Martin of Paul Dalla Lana, Mathias Lauda and Pedro Lamy, after the trio scored their fourth win of the season to bring their total to 122.

Those two and the third-placed #88 Abu Dhabi Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR of Khaled Al Qubaisi, Patrick Long and David Heinemeier Hansson are the only cars mathematically able to take the titles with 52 points still on the table. However, Long is only able to contribute to his team winning the Teams title, missing the round at CoTa has eliminated him from contention in the Drivers tally.

A win or second place in Shanghai would seal the title for the #83 crew, regardless of the finishing positions of the #98 and #88.

However, the remaining title contenders must win both races and even then at best must see the Ferrari finish last on the road or fail to finish. Or, in the case of the Porsche, both its title rivals must hit trouble in the remaining races.
