Richard Dean was very keen indeed in United Autosport’s Estoril garage to introduce the DSC Editor to a man who may prove to be very important in his future career.
Paul ‘Flower’ Haigh has worked alongside Richard for decades but now has a brand new brief:
“I’ve appointed him as my Driver Manager, I decided a while ago to get an FIA driver rating and found out that I’m now a Bronze.
“I really want to have a go in an LMP3 car so Flower is now tasked with getting that in place for 2017.”
Richard has an impressive racing cv after race winning form in single seaters up to F3000 he won the British GT Championship GT2 Class Championship alongside Kurt Luby in 2002 and was part of the Le Mans 24 Hours GT2 winning effort in 2006 with Team LNT and their Panoz Esperante GTLM (below on the podium with Lawrence Tomlinson and Tom Kimber Smith together with race Engineer Alan Mugglestone).
With United Autosports’ role as Ligier’s UK Agents for their LMP3 prototypes, and with United already having a small fleet of team operated and customer LMP3s housed in their Yorkshire workshops it seems like Flower’s task might not be the most arduous of his career thus far!
United Autosports meanwhile have stayed on in Estoril for a test later this week with three Ligiers on track where they will test several potential drivers for the planned 2017 ELMS and British Championship campaigns. It seems that Richard may get an opportunity to try the cars out sooner rather than later!
