Nielsen Racing Signs Rishover & Spence For LMP3 Cup

Second entry for the team

Nielsen Racing has announced that is set to race in the Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup Championship with a second Ligier JS P3 this year, with gentleman racer Jason Rishover and former F3 driver Jamie Spence.

Rishover has raced in Radicals over recent seasons, while Spence has plenty of experience in British F2 during the 1990s, as well as a few appearances in the BTCC championship in 1996.

This entry is the second in the new ACO-affiliated championship, following its announcement last month of a partnership with Ecurie Ecosse to run a car with Alasdair McCaig and Colin Noble.

“For the Nielsen Racing team to be doing this with only two years behind us is a massive move,” said team principal Sven. “It’s the future for us and we want to stay in sportscars for the long term. The deal with Ecurie Ecosse brings prestige to the team and we have another strong driver pairing in Jason and Jamie so we’ve got two very competitive cars.”

“It’s going to be really exciting,” said Rishover on the announcement. “I only tested the car five to six week ago and it went really well. The Radical has been a really good learning curve for me and it’s a fantastic car but now I’m driving a Le Mans Prototype. Nielsen will be looking after the car and it’s a good progression for me and for them.

“To get Jamie Spence into and LMP3 car is thrilling news. He’s come out of retirement and we are both very exciting. Jamie is a pure thoroughbred racer and he is adapting well from his F3 days.”

“I’m looking forward to coming back and doing something in a proper championship,” added Spence. “The LMP3 ticks the box for me. It’s a good standard for me to come back into and the team know how to run a car. Coming from a Formula 3 car, the LMP3 is a lot heavier but they are great fun to drive and have lots of grip.

“I’m looking forward to Donington, it’s a circuit I know well and we’ve got high hopes for a good result for the two of us.”
