Team Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing Mercedes-AMG drivers Mick Wishofer and Dorian Boccolacci secured their first ADAC GT Masters race victory on Sunday at Lausitzring in wet conditions.
Second place went to Precote Herberth Motorsport Porsche crew Robert Renauer and Klaus Bachler.
Third position went to the sister Precote Herberth car of Alfred Renauer and Sebastian Asch. With two races still to go, Audi drivers and defending champions Patric Niederhauser and Kelvin van der Linde continue to lead the table and are five points ahead of Renauer and seven points ahead of SSR Performance Porsche Duo Christian Engelhart and Michael Ammermüller . “A mega result!” Cheered winner Dorian Boccolacci. “I am really proud of our team because our car has been really good for the whole race weekend.”
Mick Wishofer and Dorian Boccolacci laid the foundation for their victory with an impressive stint from starting driver Boccolacci. The Frenchman started the race from 17th place and was already ninth after the first lap.
Even after that, the former Formula 2 driver made up other positions and was already fifth before the pit stops.
After a late driver change, partner Wishofer came back on the track in third place. Only a few laps later, the Austrian passed Robert Renauer’s second-placed Porsche and immediately took first place when the WRT Audi that had been in the lead up to that point (pole-setters Benjamin Goethe and Frédéric Vervisch) had to complete a drive-through penalty for an offence during a pit stop. Wishofer then controlled the race and was the first to see the checkered flag, 4.6 seconds ahead. The 21-year-old and team-mate Boccolacci celebrated their debut success in the ADAC GT Masters, and Wishofer also won the Pirelli Junior classification. For their racing team Zakspeed it was the sixth win and the first since 2016.
Robert Renauer and Klaus Bachler were on course for the podium throughout the race and were able to look forward to their second top 3 result of the weekend with second place. Renauer improved to second place overall. The Bavarian was shielded from the rear by the sister car of Sebastian Asch and Alfred Renauer, who took their first podium of the year.
In fourth place, Toksport WRT Mercedes-AMG drivers Luca Stolz and Maro Engel also scored important points in the fight for the title, in which they are currently fourth overall just 14 points behind the top of the table. Stolz and Engel started in 19th place and were also able to catch up well.
Rutronic Racing’s Patric Niederhauser and Kelvin van der Linde were fifth, Indy Dontje and Maximilian Götz sixth in their Mann-Filter Team HTP-Winward AMG expanding their lead in the standings to five points. The duo was in second place until a muffed pit stop that resulted in a drive-through penalty.
DLV Team Schütz Motorsport AMG crew Marvin Dienst and Philipp Frommenwiler came in seventh followed by GRT Grasser Racing Team pairing Albert Costa Balboa and Franck Perera in the best Lamborghini ahead of Goethe and Vervisch, who had to be content with ninth after a long lead. Henric Skoog and Sheldon van der Linde completed the top 10 with their Schubert MotorsportBMW M6 GT3.
With position 11, the Porsche duo Christian Engelhart and Michael Ammermüller kept their championship chances. The two drivers will travel to the season finale in Oschersleben next week as third in the table.
Team ISR Audi driver Filip Salaquarda took the win in the Pirelli Trophy classification.
Mick Wishofer (Team BKK Mobil Oil Racing, Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo): “The team really did a mega job today. Dorian [Boccolacci] got off to a great start, it was up to me to make the second half of the race From my position I was able to overtake the Porsche relatively quickly and then control the race well.
