We’ve already reported on the efforts of the Porsche GTE runners and the three LMP2 cars running tyre and engine tests at the post ELMS weekend test at Portimao but there was plenty more going on, only some of which we can report here!
In LMP2 Wayne Boyd (above) was out and running in one of the United LMP2 Orecas where both Salih Yoluc and Charlie Eastwood both had track time too (the pair travelling overnight from Barcelona where they had been racing a TF Sport Aston Martin GT3 in GT Open), this a delayed promised opportunity to test the car after Yoluc ran with United Autosports in Asian Le Mans Series two seasons ago.
The United LMP3 fleet was in use too, Championship winner Tom Gamble undertaking development running in one car with two others dedicated to prospective 2021 customers, Belgian British F3 racer Ulysse de Pauw running on Monday under the tutelage of manager Stephane Lemeret with British GT racer Ian Loggie running in the other car, Andy Meyrick in attendance.
Also believed to have tested on the Tuesday were 2020 JMW Motorsport pairing Gunnar Jeannette and Rodrigo Salles, this ahead of a potential Rolex 24 Hours entry with United in LMP3.
Their regular ELMS mount was in use for the Goodyear test with Goodyear test driver Jon Lancaster getting his first taste of a GT car, and enjoying it!
And there was a second GTE Ferrari out and running too, with Ollie Hancock and John Hartshorne testing in the same car that they normally contest the Michelin Le Mans Cup, the car converted on Sunday to GTE spec, this the first GTE car that Hartshorne has sampled since his 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours drive in the Jet Alliance Lotus Evora!
(Correction – the GTE car is actually one of a pair of unarmed car that Kessel have prepped and have available for 2021)
In LMP3 there was testing underway for the DKR Engineering and Nielsen squads and for RLR MSport too who had 2019 IMSA Prototype Challenge Champion Austin McCusker (pictured top) running on Monday, 2019 British F4 race winner Tommy Foster running on both days.
