With the debate on whether the FIA World Endurance Championship should change to a summer start for the future calendar, leaving the Le mans 24 Hours as the double points scoring finale it seems a sensible time to take a look at the points standings after this year’s epic race to see what an impact that double points score has made at the near mid season point this year.
LMP1 Manufacturers
In the LMP1 Manufacturers standings Toyota still lead the Championship, now with 115 points, but now only by a single point as Audi’s double points haul for their 1,2 finish pulled back a massive 55 points on Toyota’s lead. Porsche stay third and lose a little more ground on their rivals and now lie on 60 points, just over half the current total of the Championship leaders.
LMP Drivers
In the Drivers LMP World Championship the double race winning #8 Toyota crew have 80 points and hold a 20 point margin over the Le Mans winning #2 Audi trio, Tom Kristensen and Lucas di Grassi hold third spot, a further 6 points adrift (Loic Duval fall to ninth after his withdrawal from the #1 Audi at Le Mans. Fourth in the standings, courtesy of their excellent run at Le mans are the #12 Rebellion crew, they sit ahead of Marc Gene (36 points for his one off double points scoring 2nd place at LM), the #7 Toyota crew with both Porsche crews now split by the #27 SMP Racing trio from Le Mans – Points in this Championship are scored by the WEC registered LMPs in strict finishing order whatever the class.
LMP1 Private Drivers & Teams
It’s early days but at present the #12 Rebellion trio hold a 100 points to nil lead over their team-mates in both the Drivers and Teams standings!
LMP2 Drivers and Teams
A combination of misfortune for the previous points leading cars and the driver reshuffle at SMP Racing for Le Mans has left the points standings looking very different from before.
Sergey Zlobin now leads the Championship courtesy of a full double points haul at Le Mans which accounts for 50 of his current 77 points total.
His SMP team-mate Anton Ladygin stans on 65 points courtesy of a lower pre LM points haul in the sister car.
The double race winning G-Drive Morgan Nissan crew sit a full 25 points back from Zlobin after scoring just a single point at Le mans (for Pole position) with Mika Salo a couple of points back with his 50 point Le Mans tally.
The KCMG trio suffered the same fate as G-Drive with a nil points race tally at Le Mans and sit on 37 points – 40 down on the leader!
In the teams standings its 77 points for the #27 SMP Racing Oreca Nissan, 52 for the G-Drive Morgan Nissan and 37 for the KCMG Oreca Nissan
LMGTE Manufacturers
The order remains the same post Le Mans in the Manufacturers standings, but the gaps increase, slightly in the case of the battle for the lead between Ferrari and Porsche, more so for Aston Martin who fall back a little – Ferrari’s single point advantage coming into Le Mans is extended to 12 after a 71 point haul. They now have 135 points to Porsche’s 123 with Aston back on 85.
LMGTE Drivers
The picture is better still for the full season WEC pairing of Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander – their 51 point haul now gives them a total of 90 points and extends the advantage over the nearest Porsche pairing to 27 points.
the #92 Porsche pair of Fred Mako and Marco Holzer have a couple of points advantage over their part-time team mate Richard Lietz with Giancarlo Fisichella, another non full season WEC man lying fourth with his 51 points all scored at Le Mans.
First of the Aston drivers are actually the #95 GTE Am pair of Kristian Poulsen and David Heinemeier Hansson (Nikki Thiim missed Spa) on 40 points with the second Porsche crew, then Thiim behind before we get to Darren Turner and Stefan Mucke on 29 points lying 8th in the order.
LMGTE Pro Teams
AF Corse’s #51 team leads here too, currently on course for a defence of all three titles – 90 points gives them a 21 point edge over the #92 Porsche crew with the sister #91 911 RSR nine points further back.
The #97 Aston team is just three points off fourth in the standings but thereafter there are big gaps.
Failure to score at Le Mans leaves the #71 AF Corse team on just 25 points with the #99 Aston team on 16 and the luckless Ram #52 team on just 8 points.
LMGTE Am Teams
The Young Driver AMR #95 team have a convincing 29 point lead here – their 93 point total plays the #61 AF Corse Ferrari’s 64.
Steady scoring from Proton Competition’s new Porsche leaves them third, 4 points behind the Ferrari with the second (#98) Aston Martin a further seven points back on 53.
2013 Teams Champs 8Star, now confirmed as being without Enzo Potolicchio for the remainder of the WEC are way back on 30 points with the #81 AF Corse and #53 Ram 458s close behind on 27 and 26 points respectively.
LMGTE Am Drivers
Aston’s #95 crew lead here too, Kristian Poulsen and David Heinemeier Hansson with 93 points lead their team-mate Nicki Thiim by 18 points.
The full season #61 Ferrari trio of Luis Perez Companc, Marco Cioci and Mirko Venturi trail the Championship leaders by 29 points (64 points) with the Proton Porsche trio on 60 and the #98 Aston crew on 53.
