Nick Moss & Joe Osborne Take The Win In GT Open Barcelona Finale

Nick Moss and Joe Osborne won the last race of the 2021 International GT Open on a warm Sunday afternoon at Barcelona’s circuit de Catalunya.

Last year, the Inception Racing pair took their maiden overall win in the series here and they repeated that result.

The McLaren crew resisted the final assault of Al Faisal Al Zubair, second together with Andy Soucek in the Lechner Racing Porsche, with freshly-crowned 2021 Champions Michele Beretta-Frederik Schandorff (VSR Lambo) finishing third, after a difficult start of the day, when they crashed in the pit lane at the beginning of qualifying because of an unsafe release.

Iribe-Millroy (Inception Racing McLaren) and Seyffert-Tweraser (HP Racing Lambo) completed the Pro-Am podium while Dani Díaz Varela-Jaume Font (Baporo Mercedes) doubled Saturday’s success in Am, ahead of Negri-Schreibman (AF Corse Ferrari) and S.Jedlinski-Korzeniowski (Olimp Racing Audi).

For the third consecutive time on pole, Joe Osborne had trouble at the start to resist the charge of the Mercedes of Spinelli and Drouet but managed to retrieve the lead in turn 3, ahead of the Frenchman and the Italian.

Pro-Am Champion Ollie Millroy as fourth followed by Basz, Soucek, Foley, Carroll, Simioni, Beretta and Moluin. On lap 5, Spinelli stopped in the pit with a technical issue.

Osborne’s advantage grew up to 8 seconds by lap 14, when the pit stop window opened. By then Soucek had passed Basz for fourth and the Spaniards was among the first ones to pit.

After all stops, Moss led by 6.5 seconds on Al Zubair and 13 on Iribe, then Pla, Schandorff, Dinan, Jedlinski and Nemoto, who had contact with Dinan and spun. After that came Seyffert, who had won a long and spirited duel with Kodric.

There were 3-second penalties for Nemoto, Foley and Pla for the various incidents, while no further action was taken further to the contact in the chicane between the … Jedlinskis father and son!

It was a relatively quiet few closing laps, with Moss resisting the pressure of AlZubair, while Schandorff finished third. Font taking the win in Am ahead of Negri and S.Jedlinski.
