British racer Stuart Middleton suffered arm and leg injuries after being hit by the Race 1-winning Team Ceccato BMW M4 GT3 at the opening round of the 2022 ACI Italian GT Sprint Championship at Monza.
The incident occurred as Middleton ran out to take over the Imperiale Racing Lamborghini from team-mate Alberto di Folco, the BMW unsighted as Jens Klingmann came in to make his own stop to hand over to Timo Glock.
Middleton was taken to hospital with injuries described in a statement from ACI as ‘not serious’.
The BMW went on to win the first race with di Folco driving solo to a Race 2 victory, the team-mates reunited later.
