The 2023 FIA WEC programme for the Corvette C8.R will be run by the factory Corvette Racing team in GTE Am with Ben Keating set to be added to the effort as the required Bronze-rated driver for the GTE AM class.
With the GTE Pro class cancelled after the current 2022 season the only remaining GTE class in the FIA WEC (and at the Le Mans 24 Hours) is GTE-Am with a GT3-based Pro-Am class set to replace the class in 2024.
To this point industry and paddock sources had indicated that a link with an existing GTE team was the preferred route for Corvette to retain a presence at Le Mans and in the WEC but that prospect has changed in recent weeks as the GM management team grapples with the moving pieces in a rapidly changing international endurance racing environment.
DSC is now certain that Corvette Racing will operate the single-car FIA WEC effort and that Ben Keating will feature in the driver line-up.
Keating goes to the 2022 WEC season finale with the Championship points lead in the #33 TF Sport Aston Martin he shares with fellow Championship leader Marco Sorensen and Henrique Chaves with only the #98 Northwest AMR Aston Marin of Paul Dalla Lana, Nicki Thiim and David Pittard now mathematically able to catch them.
