Isotta Fraschini’s Monza paddock awning was a hive of activity on Thursday lunchtime ahead of the public debut for the Tipo 6 Competizione Hypercar in two short track sessions on Saturday and Sunday in front of what is expected to be a significant home crowd.
The car arrives fresh from its latest track test at Motorland Aragon where once again Jean Karl Vernay drove alongside late substitute Matteo Mallucelli who replaced an unwell Marco Bonanomi.
Sharing the awning with the race car is the first ‘Pista’ version of the Tipo 6 which was revealed last month at a GT1 Sports Club event and tested alongside the LMH car at Aragon. The ‘Pista’ too will take to the Monza track in the two running sessions at the weekend.
There are plenty of detail changes to spot from the first version of the LMH car on the test car including profile changes in the side sponsons after the latest round of wind-tunnel tests.
Homologation is now being targeted for late October with Isotta Fraschini and team partner Vector Sport having finally opted not to try to rush the process in order to race at Bahrain. Instead, they will prioritise their test programme whilst they await the decision of the FIA WEC over what will be a single car entry request for 2024.
Also on display, for the very first time. is a rather splendid 1:2 scale model of the third and final member of the Tipo 6 family, the ‘Stradale’ road car!
