DSC’s 2023 Livery Of The Year

‘Rexy’ From AO Racing

As always there are multiple new liveries to savour, including a couple of ‘specials’. Peugeot TotalEnergies’ switch to a colour scheme that looked back to victories past from Le Mans proved popular.

The all-pink Iron Dames Porsche served as a beacon for the followers of that spectacular programme.

And, amongst the one-off ‘specials’ a mention should go to the half and half Le Mans effort from GR Racing, it’s regular and very classy black and orange on one side the classic Gulf colours on the other.

That leaves two as our finalists and they could not be more different.

Hertz Team Jota’s 2023 colours were revealed with the wish that the car’s Singer-designed scheme would become the first of a new series of classic Le Mans liveries. It succeeded beautifully with an attention to detail that should give several factory teams cause to ask for a meeting without coffee or biscuits with their own livery designers!

But, in 2023, stunning though it is, it falls short of the winning effort. That goes, and by a distance, to a livery that epitomises the spirit of the sport.

‘Rexy’ (top), and his ‘sister’ ‘Roxy’ (below) came from the imagination of AO Racing’s PJ Hyett and his children, the dinosaur-themed look won over even cynical watchers almost instantly and is a massive crowd favourite.

Born out of love and imagination, beautifully executed and then developed through the season with fan activation and merchandise that has a major following too. ‘Rexy’ is DSC’s Livery of the Year for 2023.
