The #63 Iron Lynx Mercedes AMG GT3 Evo is to be permitted to take up the 62nd and last position on the grid for the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend after a torrid couple of days at the Circuit de Le Sarthe.
The car, a third entry for the team earned via their Championship victory in the LMGT3 class of the European Le Mans Series in 2024 is set to be driven by Australian father and son Stephen and Brenton Grove (both Le Mans rookies) and Mercedes AMG factory GT driver Luca Stolz.
The car those has required a replacement chassis after an accident for Grove Snr in Free Practice on Wednesday.
That repair saw the team miss night practice that evening, eating that the drivers should have completed five laps apiece in Thursday evening’s 60 minute session to complete the obligatory night-time running.
The car though suffered a mechanical issue on it first lap of the evening, stranding the car out on the circuit and resulting in no laps being completed in darkness by two of the drivers and only a single lap by Brenton Grove.
After an appeal to Race Stewards though the car will be permitted to start with the following provisos, principally on the basis of the driver’s prior records in endurance racing:
As the fastest driver, Luca Stolz must take the start; and
Stephen Grove is not permitted to drive between 10 pm on Saturday and 6 am on Sunday
