Honda Close To Confirming 2027 FIA WEC Hypercar Entry (updated)

NB – As discussed in the edition of The Week In Sportscars podcast 5 February this story was ill-informed by a rogue source, the same source appears to have informed other stories elsewhere previously – To the best of this writer’s knowledge whilst there have been, and remain, conversations about privately entered Acura/ Honda cars no immediate WEC Hypercar programme is currently in prospect.

Honda looks likely to confirm a factory Hypercar entry in time for the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championships season if current advanced discussions reach a positive conclusion.

DSC can report that multiple industry sources have confirmed that a programme based in Europe is under active discussion with suppliers and race organisers and that final approval from Japan could be imminent.

The effort would be Honda-branded and would involve a re-badged Acura ARX-06, currently (and uniquely) campaigned in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship by a combined Meyer Shank Racing/HRC USA effort.

Whilst HRC is known to have had discussions with a number of teams about potential privateer efforts, including entries into the 2026/ 2027 Asian Le Mans Series, this is a separate, factory-blessed effort.

If the programme is confirmed, Honda would most likely join both Ford and McLaren as 2027 WEC debutants, with a proven platform that is already a race winner in North America.

DSC can further report that these same sources also confirm that Inter Europol Competition is the most likely appointee as service provider if the effort is confirmed. An approach to the team in the Asian Le Mans Series paddock in Dubai earlier today was met with a polite refusal to comment.

The Polish outfit, which made its sportscar racing debut 10 years ago in the ELMS’ LMP3 ranks, has become one of the most successful LMP2 teams of the current generation.

Its most significant achievements have come at the Le Mans 24 Hours, where it has scored two class wins and a second-place finish in the last three editions of the French endurance classic.

Its other headline successes have come in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, where it claimed the LMP2 title in 2024, took a class win at the Sebring 12 Hours in 2025, and most recently finished second and third in last weekend’s Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona.

The team also competes in the European Le Mans Series and Asian Le Mans Series, frequently fighting for wins and titles. It won the Asian LMS LMP3 championship in 2018-19 and has finished second in the ELMS LMP2 championship standings in each of the past two seasons.

With significant commercial punch to bring to the fray, any programme with Honda is set to see the Polish team involved to some degree in the financial package to enable the effort.

The prospective WEC programme is understood not to put a continuation of the IMSA Acura GTP programme at risk.
