After an exciting weekend of racing at Laguna Seca last time out that saw new race winners emerge across both classes, Mustang Challenge North America travels to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend.
A mixed-conditions saw a caution-filled Race 1 in misty Monterey on Saturday. Cole Loftsgard in the Round 3 Racing machine, extended his win streak to three in a row, though Devin Anderson kept him honest with a fair fight all the way through, finishing second. In Dark Horse Legends, Nicholas Smither navigated the cautions and restarts expertly to claim his first-ever win in the series after starting from the very back of the grid.
Race 2 saw the whole field grapple with rain tyres on an increasingly dry track, a challenge that Devin Anderson handled flawlessly from pole position to bring home a win for his team, TechSport Racing, ending Loftsgard’s streak and marking his first victory in the series. Tom Tait and Wheelhouse Motorsports won in Dark Horse Legends, proving his pace against the very quick Chris Clarke, who would cross the line second.
Heading to Mid-Ohio, the series returns to its old stomping grounds, which hosted the first-ever round of the Mustang Challenge series back in 2024. This will be the second time the Mustang Dark Horse R races at the Lexington, Ohio circuit.
16 Mustangs will battle it out this weekend, with 11 entrants in Dark Horse and five in Dark Horse Legends.
In Dark Horse, race winners Loftsgard and Anderson will look to build on their results from the first two rounds in their #42 Round 3 Racing and #22 TechSport Racing cars, respectfully. Wheelhouse Motorsports drivers Sandy Satullo and Will Lucas return as well, hunting their first victories.
Laguna Seca rookie Nolan Allaer teams up with Spark Performance again for his second-ever sports car race weekend, looking to improve on the solid pace he developed over the course of the last round.
Ethan Low, previously racing in some GT4 IMSA series, joins the grid this weekend in the #25 Flying Lion Motorsports car. Colin Harrison returns after missing Laguna Seca, driving the #21 TechSport Racing car.
Ford CEO Jim Farley will join in on the action for the third time this season in the #17 Wheelhouse Motorsports Ford Racing-branded Mustang Dark Horse R.
In Dark Horse Legends, Joseph Dederichs, Paolo Salvatore, Tom Tait, and Joe Koenig return this weekend, eager to overtake Chris Clarke for the top spot in the standings, as Clarke will miss this round. Mustang Cup USA’s Dave Luaces in the #37 Birdhouse Racing car makes his debut in the Mustang Challenge this weekend.
Race 1 will take the green flag at 1:55 pm ET on Saturday, and Race 2 on Sunday morning at 9:05 am ET, before the main-event O’Reilly Auto Parts 4 Hours of Mid-Ohio Michelin Pilot Challenge Race in the afternoon.
