Imola & Hungaroring Return To GTWC Europe Schedule For 2027

GT World Challenge Europe’s 2027 Sprint and Endurance Cup calendars are set, with two significant venue changes compared to the 2026 schedule.

In the Endurance Cup, after opening the year at Paul Ricard on April 16th and 17th, the second round will be held in Italy, but not at Monza. Instead, Imola takes the slot for a race weekend on May 21st to 23rd, for the first time since 2022.

According to SRO Motorsports Group founder Stéphane Ratel, this was a late change: “This was a very last-minute thing because we were informed earlier this week that Monza is going to redo their building and can’t accommodate our date. We’ve been to Imola before, we love Imola, and we will be going to Imola.

“At Le Mans, I was with the mayor of Imola, and the promoter,” Ratel expanded.

“They told me how it would be nice to have [GT World Challenge Europe] back, and I said ‘yes, but we already have two races in Italy’. So when Monza let us down, immediately I said Imola, and luckily they could provide us the same weekend.”

Ratel also confirmed that the deal with Imola is currently only for 2027.

“At the moment it’s a one-off,” he stated. “We have a contract with Monza, so we will return.”

Later in the year, the final round of the Sprint Cup campaign will see the teams travel to the Hungaroring in Budapest from October 1st to 3rd. This event replaces the 2026 Sprint Cup finale at Barcelona.

The last time the GT World Challenge visited the Hungarian circuit was in 2019. It was due to feature on the 2020 calendar, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“The other novelty (in addition to the Imola addition), because I want to bring a bit of diversity each year, is that this year we will go to Budapest,” Ratel added during today’s SRO conference at Spa. “It’s good. We haven’t been to Eastern Europe for a while. It’s a beautiful circuit that has undergone many renovations. It’s a beautiful city.”

GT World Challenge Europe will still visit the Spanish circuit, though, as the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya will play host to the Endurance Cup finale on October 23rd and 24th. This replaces the 2026 finale at Portimao, with the Portuguese circuit dropping off the list.

As for the rest of the schedule, the Sprint Cup teams will also race at Brands Hatch, Misano, Magny-Cours and Zandvoort between May and September. Endurance Cup runners will compete at the Spa 24 Hours in June as part of the IGTC schedule, and at the Nürburgring for the penultimate round in August.
