Robert Shwartzman will return to the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Hypercar category in 2027, with the 26-year-old joining Peugeot TotalEnergies to race its 9X8 prototype.
Shwartzman previously competed in the FIA WEC in 2024, racing AF Corse’s #83 Ferrari 499P and winning overall at Lone Star Le Mans. A move to IndyCar with Prema Racing for 2025, where he sensationally claimed Indianapolis 500 pole position as a rookie, followed, before the collapse of the Italian squad’s IndyCar programme over the off-season left him without a drive for 2026.
The arrival of Shwartzman at Peugeot fits one of the first pieces of it 2027 Hypercar driver puzzle into place. At least two drivers are expected to depart the current 9X8 roster.
Shwartzman has previously contributed to Stellantis’ racing programmes after spending two seasons as the reserve driver for DS Penske in FIA Formula E.
