Team AAI Le Mans Programme Progresses, Team Acquires Porsche 911 RSR

The two car Le Mans entry from Team AAI is progressing towards a full six driver squad.

The Taiwanese team earned the two invitations to race at Le Mans in the LM GTE Am class courtesy of their 1,2 GT class result in the 2014 Asian Le Mans Series and has now also confirmed to DSC that they will field a single Porsche 997 GT3 RSR and a newly acquired Porsche 911 RSR.

The 911 RSR has been bought from Proton Competition and is one of three that the German team had at the start of the 2015 season as Christian Ried explained to DSC this morning:

“We bought a third 911 RSR for this season, that car is running as the #77 in the WEC. We are running the same car we had last year in the WEC as our #88 and we have a deal for the third car, which was the Prospeed car in WEC last year and was the car we ran in the ELMS at Silverstone (DSC took a wrong steer from a team member at Silverstone – the ELMS and WEC cars were NOT the same).

Ironically that means that the car will be back with Rudi Penders’ Prospeed Competition outfit, the Belgian outfit providing technical support for the Team AAI effort.

The older car will be numbered #67 and will feature Taiwnese Bronze rated 2014 AsLMS GT Drivers Champion Jun San Chen (known as ‘San’) and Xavier Maassen on the driver squad with other drivers currently negotiating with the team to fill the final spot.

The #68 car meanwhile has a second Taiwanese Gentleman driver, Han-Chen Chen (known as Morris), confirmed as the Bronze Driver with the newer Porsche in high demand with other driving prospects.

“Anybody looking for this effort to be dropping off the entry list is looking in entirely the wrong direction,” said a team source.
