Damien Faulkner will form part of a new look Murphy Prototypes driver squad for the opening round of the 2016 European Le Mans Series at Silverstone this weekend in the team’s Oreca 03-R LMP2 entry. He’s seen below with Ben Keating after a podium finish in Viper Exchange GTD Viper.
The Irishman was 2000 European Formula Palmer Audi Champion and 2001 third place finisher in the Indy Lights Series, and had a one off appearance in the eventual title winning Lola SR2 in the FIA SCC at a very rainy Mondello Park, this his last race in a sports Prototype.
After that he turned his hand with some success to Porsche one-make racing, twice Porsche Carrera Cup GB Champion and twice runner up in the Porsche Supercut before moving to North America once again where he scored numerous victories in IMSA competition including a class win in the 2011 12 Hours of Sebring.
He looks set to be joined by Shaun Balfe, British GT Championship runner up in 2003 (below right with co-driver Jamie Derbyshire), 2004 Spanish GT Champion, 2005 Britcar 24 Hours winner and 2011 Radical UK SR8 Champion with the third seat still to be decided between two drivers as this story goes to press.
We’re expecting too that an additional driver will be signed for the Ginetta LMP3 car.
