More Revisions To The WEC Calendar

The FIA Endurance Commission has confirmed the final WEC calendar after a meeting in Paris, but there has been a significant amendment with the Interlagos round moving from August to November 30th at the request of the race promoter, Emerson Fittipaldi.

The reasons given for the Interlagos date change are twofold: firstly, that the FIFA World Cup in Brazil would overshadow the event on the original date; and that the circuit needs to prepare for the F1 race on November 9th.

But while this move now leaves a gap of three months after Le Mans before the season continues, as well as a hectic final four weeks, there is confirmation that the Circuit of the Americas race will take place on the Saturday, following agreement between COTA, IMSA and the ACO at Daytona last weekend. It had been feared that an agreement was unlikely and that a new venue in the USA would need to be found.

The final schedule:

March 28-29 – Official Test, Paul Ricard HTTT
April 18-20 – Silverstone
May 02-03 – Spa-Francorchamps
June 01 – Le Mans Test Day
June 14/15 – Le Mans 24 Hours
September 18-20 – COTA
October 10-12 – Fuji
October 31-November 2 – Shanghai
November 13-15 – Bahrain
November 28-30 – Interlagos
