The advance guard for the DSC Le Mans away team arrived back in town with a sense of déjà vu – it’s less than a week since we left after the Test Day.
We were welcomed with glorious sunshine after a fairly rough Channel crossing, David ‘Doris’ Downes opting to stare at the horizon for the full 3 hour crossing to fend off the otherwise immediate return of his breakfast!
After lunch in the lovely town of Honfleur, we had time this afternoon for a quick scouting mission at the circuit with the SRT team, under the direction of Bill Riley looking for ways to exploit the full 10 kg weight break they have been doled out by the latest GTE Balance of Performance changes – The Corvettes and Aston Martins (including the GTE Am cars are given 10 kilos more with the Vipers also getting a 5 litre increase in fuel capacity (though their purpose designed tanks hold only the originally designated 90 litres! The cars run with larger E85 fuel tanks in ALMS and required bespoke items for this week’s event)
The #32 Lotus T128 arrived back at the circuit today after its repair following the hefty test day shunt for Dominik Kraihamer.
At JMW Motorsport team owner Jim McWhirter was putting the final touches to the #66 Ferrari’s paint job before scrutineering gets underway tomorrow. The Murphy Prototypes and DKR Engineering crews were busy too prepping their machines ahead of their first public airing for the week.
There are new finishing touches now applied to the paddock too with Corvette and AF Corse having applied graphics of impressive proportions to their paddock and pitlane structures respectively.
