None of the top 20 fastest times for the evening’s first qualifying session were bettered in Thursday’s night running at Spa, so those 20 cars will now battle it out to set the top of the grid in Friday’s evening’s Super Pole shoot-out, where each car will get two clear laps to set a time.
That top 20 is the #77 BMW, #3 Audi, #99 McLaren, #50 Ferrari, #1 Audi, #26 Audi, #84 Mercedes, #107 Aston Martin, #79 BMW, #86 Mercedes, #2 Audi, #66 BMW, #35 Nissan, #80 Nissan, #19 Mercedes, #52 Ferrari, #12 BMW, #85 Mercedes, #7 Bentley and #101 McLaren.
Fastest man in this night session was Maxime Martin in the #66 BMW on a 2:20.606 – about four-tenths slower than the 20th-fastest time from the evening running. The Belgian set the time with less than 30 minutes to run in the hour-and-15-minute session. The only other notably quick time to come between then and the flag was Steven Kane’s 2:21.418 to go second in the #7 Bentley shortly afterwards.
Young German Ace Fabian Hamprecht gave the new ISR Audi team a boost with third-fastest time in this session, ahead of Pedro Lamy in the Leonard Aston Martin, who put in a late charge to go fourth with a 2:21.613.
Stephane Ortelli in the #26 Sainteloc Audi was fifth, ahead of the #38 MP Aston Martin in the hands of Darren Turner and the #1 WRT Audi. The #86 HTP Mercedes in eighth came in ahead of two Ferraris – the #52 AF Corse and #11 Kessel – in ninth and tenth.
