News reached DSC yesterday that the Generation Bentley Continental GT3 will not be taking part in the Brands Hatch race meeting this weekend, and indeed the programme as a whole has now been cancelled, and the car is set to be put up for sale in the coming days.
We caught up with David Appleby at Brands Hatch this morning who confirmed:
“The car is back in the workshop, de-stickered and due in the paintshop to be prepped for sale. We won’t be racing for the last two rounds of the British GT Championship but are now looking towards a new programme for the future, that won’t be with the Bentley.
“The car will be up for sale in the next 10 days and will be available for anyone that wants to run it immediately thereafter.”
Appleby was unwilling to go into details of the reasons behind the decision but is understood to be unhappy with the general competitiveness of the car in the British Championship, the team have struggled for pace and reliability during the year but have scored a quartet of top ten finishes with Steve Tandy and James Apppleby.
A spokesman for Bentley expressed some disappointment at the decision to withdraw from the first customer team for the new GT3 car but made it clear that there had been, and remained, a comprehensive technical support programme in place for the car.
The M-Sport run cars have won races in 2014 and the Dyson racing run Bentleys in Pirelli World Challenge are now showing real pace too, last weekend’s pole position and podium finish for Butch Leitzinger at Sonoma the best showing so far for the North American effort.
